Dennis Nilsen killed from the years 1978 to 1983. Many historical events happened within this time period. One of the most influential things that happen in the 1980's was the discovery of AIDS and also HIV. This may have impacted Dennis because he was, in fact, a homosexual. When the disease was first discovered, many thought only homosexuals could get this disease.

1979- Margaret Thatcher was the first woman to be elected to the position of Prime Minister.
1981- Prince Charles and Lady Dianna get married.
1981- The first case of AIDS was discovered.
1982- Great Britain and Argentina go to war.

1985- Rock Hudson was the first celebrity to die from AIDS.
